We are trying to reconnect with old friends--REC Srinagar Batch 1978-1983. "Time is gold, but friends are platinum." OK, it's pretty cheesy but it conveys an important message: "Friends, especially the old ones, shall endure forever"; Keeping that spirit in mind this site has been created.

With the conversion of REC to NIT for almost 6 years now, people might be least concerned with its effect.Located on the western bank of the world famous Dal Lake near the famous Hazratbal shrine, REC Srinagar is a premier college of Engineering and technical education in India. Today NIT’s are rated just next to IIT’s in terms of student quality and research. There are currently 20 NIT’s. The Government of India started 14 REC’s between 1954 to 1965. Started in 1960 REC Srinagar was one of the first eight REC’s established during first five year plan. Since upgraded to an NIT, the central government manages the entire funding for these institutes. Following the long standing demand for more IIT’s, the then MHRD minister Murli Manohar Joshi decided to upgrade the REC’s to National Institutes of Technology (NIT). The decision was prompted by the low cost alternative to IIT’s. The upgradation of REC’s was done after it was concluded that REC’s have immense potential as proven by the success of their alumni and their contribution in the field of technical education.
